My name is Deb Powers. I've always written as part of my job — grants, publicity materials, marketing copy, training manuals — but had always dreamed of being a full-time writer. After being laid off from a full-time job as a grant writer in 2002, I turned to writing Web content. Demand Media Studios is a shining star in the Web freelance world, providing regular, steady work and always paying promptly and in full. Writing for Demand Media Studios allows me to focus on writing instead of chasing work, which is something I never expected to find in freelancing.

I'm Jeannette Monahan. I have been a writer all my life. I have a writing-related college degree and followed career paths that involved writing, but I have never really been able to call myself a writer. After years of working at home as a medical transcriptionist, I needed to find something more fulfilling or else I’d lose my mind. I found Demand Media Studios, and now I can call myself a writer. I love it. I write every day. I learn every day. I can still be a work-at-home mom. This is only the beginning. What more could I ask for?

My name is Karen Garvin. I write for my own blog, Focal Plane, and I'm finishing an undergraduate degree, so a large part of my writing has been term papers and history-related essays. I like writing for Demand Media Studios because I like the variety, and the deadlines are comfortable (not so short that I panic but not so long that I put off doing the work). I like getting paid twice a week, and I'm going to use some of the money to pay for graduate school and bills. It's a fun use of my free time, and I like learning. Demand Media Studios offers a way of surfing the Web and learning about stuff while getting paid to write about it. How great is that? A little writing every day keeps me motivated, too.

As we announced last week, Demand Media Studios has launched a new Features Format as part of our ongoing effort to provide more opportunities for our community and expand the scope and depth of content we create.
We are now recruiting Features Editors, who will perform the duties of a magazine section editor. This is not a copy editor position -- we're looking for editors with experience structuring and rewriting copy to make it strong, compelling and insightful content that jumps off the page.
Examples of Features Articles on eHow:
We're looking for editors with a minimum of 7 years experience in journalism and 4 to 5 years experience as an in-house editor for a print publication, or its online equivalent.
Features Editors will be paid $40 for editing Features Articles.
Get more information and learn how to apply here.
Note: We have a third role -- Features Fact Checker/Copy Editor -- for which we will begin recruiting in coming weeks.

I'm Virginia Franco, and I have written for Demand Media Studios for more than a year. I have made my living writing in one capacity or another for more than 15 years. I have a background in corporate communications but also write résumés and have an education blog. As a mother to four young children, Demand Media Studios offers me incredible flexibility. I write when it works for me, and I’m very grateful I have never had to take out a portion of my paycheck to pay for childcare. Perhaps my favorite thing about writing for Demand Media Studios is the topic diversity. I have written for just about every Demand Media Studios website. It is incredibly rewarding to get paid to learn about so many interesting topics.

My name is Pamela Gentry, and I’m a writer and title editor. Working for Demand Media Studios has been an answer to my prayers. I'm Al Vick, and I've been writing since I was a kid. I have dabbled in different writing styles, which include editorial, feature stories and fiction writing. I unexpectedly found myself without my job of 20 years. I applied to Demand Media Studios and thankfully, they took me on. Now, I get up in the morning, make coffee, choose my music for the day and get to work writing. I feel very fortunate.

My name is Michelle M. Nguyen. I graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in telecommunications management and spent the first part of my professional career working in the IT industry for various high tech companies. In 2008, I left my IT career to be a stay-at-home mother. I knew that I would have to work from home to help supplement my family's income. Demand Media Studios allows me to combine my expertise along with my love of writing to help provide for my family.

My name is Sandra Petersen. I am a stay-at-home mother and home educator to two daughters. I earned a BS in elementary education and music education. At one time, I had a license to teach in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. I have written for a number of websites over the last four years to supplement my husband's income. I enjoy writing for Demand Media Studios because the pay is better than I have experienced elsewhere, there is excellent communication most of the time between copy editors and writers, the topics and formats for articles are interesting and the twice-a-week payout without a payment threshold is a great incentive for me.
