What Do the CEs Want From Me?
After all of this talk about copyediting, we want to make it even easier for you (the writer) to understand what our CEs are looking for when they're editing your articles.

We are happy to share a document created for our CEs, chock-full with examples and tips for approving and rejecting articles.

This information includes advice and rules copy editors use when deciding to reject or approve your work. Use this document as a tool when you write your articles; it will help you navigate common mistakes that are guaranteed to get you a rewrite.

This document will live in the Resource Center for you to access at any time.

Enjoy!

In my experience there is no real guidelines that CE follow. I have written articles on the same subject and one get immediately approved while the next gets rejected...

Hey MichelleB,

Hopefully those inconsistencies will be minimized in the future. We know it has been a headache for both the writers and the copy editors. This is a collaborative effort amongst both parties, and we hope sharing this information helps.

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Best,
Mary

I found the posted example of the stuff CE's follow VERY interesting and informative. Read it TWICE in fact. Any clues we Writers can get as to what goes on in the typical CE's mind is a big help. Reading it helped me understand why I may have gotten some rewrites lately...(<--red faced). Thanks for this. I think the more you can open the walls between CEs and Writers, the better for everyone!

I agree JE. I had a rewrite, thought I did what the CE asked, then it was rejected. It always helps to be able to understand the other person's point of view.

Great idea! Thank you very much. Question though -- will we ever be working off of the same guidelines?

I wish this link was still active as it's only been a few days since the posting. I'm sure it would be extremely helpful for all writers to have ongoing access to.

I'm with Connie. That was a short "lived" article. The link says it will live in the resource center for you to access at any time, but I get a "page not found" message when I try to access it.

Thank you so much for posting and I will read every word. I do appreciate what the CE's go through in helping us become better writers for DS. I agree that we all need to be singing off the same page.

This is a fantastic resource for writers. I applaud DS effort to help writers understand the CE process. I find that the more I know about CE training and requirements the less rewrite requests I get.
