The Difference Between Writing for Demand Studios and eHow

We have received numerous questions from writers about the benefits of writing “How to” articles for Demand Studios instead of writing directly on ehow.com when the work is all published on the same site anyway. Here is a quick rundown of the advantages and disadvantages of writing for each:

Writing Directly to eHow:

As a member of eHow, writers are eligible for the Writer’s Compensation Program which pays based on the traffic an article generates. There is no guarantee of how much money an individual can make.

Members can interact with one another, make and accept friend requests, accrue points, comment on other articles and use all other member privileges.

There is no waiting period between the writing of an article and when it is published on the site.

Writing for Demand Studios:

A writer must be hired by Demand Studios based on a resume and writing samples and consequently, a high level of writing ability is expected.

All work that is published is paid for with a flat fee.

A writer will have a byline on articles, however, the writer will not have member privileges on eHow.

Writers are not eligible to collect Writer’s Compensation Program earnings.

Writers will be considered for work on other websites affiliated with Demand Studios as the opportunities arise (www.livestrong.com, www.golflink.com, www.rsportscars.com, etc.)

Even if a writer starts on eHow and then is hired by Demand Studios, the accounts cannot be combined.

If we start on Demand Studios, can we later create a (separate) eHow account?

Hi Sue, Thank you for your comment. You can create a separate eHow account later, however we just want to make clear that articles written through eHow will not be paid for. -Liana

How do we just revert back to writing for eHow?

Are you saying that if someone writes for Demand Studios, they cannot open a seperate account at e-how and get paid for articles written under that teir? I have only opened an ehow account so I can leave comments if someone leaves a comment on one of my DS articles, but I am curious...

Alyice, You can write for both Demand Studios and eHow simultaneously under separate accounts. While you can collect WCP earnings on your eHow member account, you cannot use claimed or suggested titles from Demand Studios in your work as an eHow member. -Soren

Not being able to leave any replies to comments on my eHow articles has turned into a blessing!

I write for eHow through Demand Studios. Is there any way I can update my profile on the eHow site? Since starting, I've changed to using a pen name for my writing and would like to change the eHow profile to reflect that, too. Any suggestions?
