Help Give Back with Write for a Cause
Do you know that 80 percent of the pre-schools and after school programs serving children in need do not have a single book for the children they serve?
Sad but true fact, especially when you consider how important learning to read is to a child’s success.
But there is good news. As many of you may remember, First Book fills this gap by providing new books and educational resources to schools and programs serving children in need. To date, they have distributed more than 95 million books and educational resources throughout the United States and Canada.
Help Give a Child a Book Today
Recognizing First Book’s ability to transform the lives of children and elevate the quality of their education, we have chosen to partner with them once again for our Write for a Cause campaign.
Since its inception in 2009, the Demand Media Studios community has helped to donate over 50,000 books to children around the country through First Book. For those that have been around for a while, you may remember the impact you had on the lives of so many children.
How Can You Help?
You can help by doing what you are already doing. For the rest of the year, we have pledged to donate one book for every 10 articles published to any of our sites or partner sites. Help us help children this holiday season and give them a brighter new year by committing to donating at least one book by writing or editing 10 articles.
We know as a community of writers and editors, we all recognize the value of literacy and education. So support the cause and spread the word! Post to your Facebook and Twitter. Tell everyone that you are joining Demand Media Studios in the fight against illiteracy.
Visit our dedicated page on Facebook often for more information, updates, and running totals. Our goal is to reach 12,000 books by the end of the year, and we hope that you all choose to be a part of this great cause.
The campaign officially starts today, so log in now to get started on your 10 articles!
