Well in our household we are pretty avid recyclers. We will try to re-use or recycle most things. In Georgia it’s known for its tornados, so a few years ago for safety reasons we had to take down more than 20 pine trees surrounding our home, but we re-used them by cutting them down to make fence post. This spring we planted four new trees. And to be more earth friendly, we decided to recycle two large wine barrels that we found, added a spout and hose and it is now used to collect rain water to water our trees and plants.
My husband and I recently signed up for a local produce delivery service. Every other week we have local, seasonal and organic produce delivered to our door. We're supporting local farms, and by avoiding produce that is shipped from thousands of miles away, we're helping to cut down on the use of fossil fuels and emissions from the shipping process. Plus, we get to try all sorts of new veggies!
Since my thumb has never been green, my husband set up a sprinkler system in my garden last year. We enjoyed an over abundance of tomatoes and squash, and so did my neighbors! This month I limited the amount of tomato and squash plants in the garden and I judiciously chose a variety of veggies and fruit bushes that my family and friends will enjoy. I look forward to the first pickings!
