A Word from a Co-Working Award Winner
Back in March, we awarded the first ever Co-Working Award to editor Carissa Bluestone. Carissa had been working in a cramped home office for months until she applied for this award, which provided her with a 3-month membership to the co-working space Office Nomads in Capitol Hill, Seattle. Carissa recently checked in with the Studio to let us know how the experience was going. Here's what she had to say:

Office Nomads is working out really well. They have a really interesting mix of people — a lot of programmers/IT people and designers, but also some startup folks, one ESL tutor, and even a guy who spends most of his time in the arctic studying bird populations. He gave a lunchtime brown bag talk about his recent research, and they have a lot of events like that, including a weekly happy hour get-together. I've enjoyed being back in an office, especially during some recent work crunches, as it's been helpful to have that structure of "going to the office" during set hours. And because the area I like to sit in is chatty (in a good way), I'm more aware of taking breaks and a real lunch hour, whereas at home, I tend to "power through" long assignments, which isn't healthy.

Best,
Carissa

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Carissa! And remember, we offer one Co-Working Award for each three month period (January through March, April through June, July through September, and October through December). If you think you would enjoy this type of work environment, we accept new applications during the first seven days of each month.
